Chicken Change-up

Well, mother nature has taken its course in the poultry department. After extensive speculation and a detailed search of the area, 5 of our 8 original chickens have been officially deemed "Dinner." While the culprit is still unknown, coyotes are the main suspect. Guess we can't blame them, we sure like to eat chicken around here. Rest in peace, Hawk, Blackie, Mo, Miney, and Eenie. Jay, Lemon and Meenie will miss you, but they'll be glad to eat your share of the grasshoppers.

Morgan and Caleb took the news in stride. When we sat down with Morgan to have the discussion, she said, "Well, they knew they weren't supposed to wander too far off!" Neither one of them so much as shed a tear over the whole deal.

So since chickens are relatively low-maintenance, we decided to get a few more: 4 to be exact. We welcomed Copper, Cookie, Chocolate, and Apple to the coop on Tuesday. They're about the same age as the chicks we got already, so none of them are laying yet. We look forward to an abundance of eggs soon!
