Even though our chicken coop is still not finished, we went ahead and purchased a couple of laying hens. We decided that they'd have to be in a box for a couple of weeks yet, so may as well start growing the bug-eaters now! The sooner they grow big enough to rid us of unwanted yard and garden pests, the better.
Morgan and Caleb think they're pretty cool. We have 4 red ones (named Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Mo), a black one (Blackie) and a yellow one (Lemon).
Rio, on the other hand, thinks they're chicken nuggets. So they're banished to the basement for now. I'm sure that once they get big enough to defend themselves, Rio will want nothing to do with them.
